A collection of very rare original antique pencil drawings / sketches of country houses drawn between 1840-1850, illustrating mainly Georgian houses by Charles J Greenwood and Frederick Peake, most inscribed and dated (please see individual descriptions and images for full details of each piece of original artwork), many heightened in ink and with water colour wash.
C. J. Greenwood and Frederick Peake's drawings of country houses, amongst other artists, were prominently used and produced as lithograph prints for Edward Twycross's series 'The Mansions of England and Wales' covering the counties of Cheshire, Lancashire and Cornwall, published mid 19th Century, many of which are also held in stock by ourselves, view here in antique lithographs.
These original drawings are extremely rare, believed to be the only ones in existence, each is beautifully detailed capturing the important architectural features of the buildings and their position in the landscape. Many of these drawings feature Grade II listed Georgian country houses designed by the architect John Dobson (1787-1865), most noted for his work in the north of England.
