Holthanger (Cherry Hill) on Wentworth Estate in Virginia Water

A very rare issue of Country Life magazine dated 12th October 1935 (being the Autumn and Motor Number). Complete with original covers and adverts this scarce issue features the luxurious modernist house known as Holthanger at the time of publication, and since re-named Cherry Hill standing on the Wentworth Estate at Virginia Water in Surrey. Designed by the architect Mr Oliver Hill in 1935, the illustrated article published on the completion of Holthanger features incredibly rare images of the property exterior and interior (showing the original furnishings with details of the interior designers, fabrics and materials), also including a ground and first floor plan. The three page comprehensive article written by R Randal Phillips beautifully describes the vision of the architect and the design style. The magazine is in very good condition, complete with adverts and with a lovely portrait frontispiece of The Hon. Mrs. Bridgewater.
