Norbury Manor and Shebdon Pool, Norbury
A very scarce original engraved print illustrating Norbury Manor, Norbury and Shebben Poole (Shebdon pool) in Staffordshire, published in 1686 for Robert Plot's Natural History of Staffordshire. Norbury Manor was built by Ralph de Botiller at the beginning of the 14th Century. This engraving drawn and engraved by Michael Burghers, 1686, titled and with coat of arms above. Illustration size 28 x 35cm (with centre fold, as issued) Very good condition, very small worm hole to the bottom right hand corner. Rare.
Michael Burghers (c. 1653-1727) was a Dutch line engraver born in Amsterdam and lived in Oxford, England from 1673. He was commissioned by the aristocracy to create estate plans, illustrations of country houses and maps.
